Sam R Leedom was the city editor of the Sacramento Bee from 1927 to 1935 and an administrator for state water programs from 1939 to 1957. He began working in the newspaper business in Orland, Glenn County in 1924 before joining the Sacramento Bee in 1927. During his time at the newspaper, Leedom's stories centered around his trips to Manchuria and Indonesia (referred to as Dutch East Indies). He became involved with water in California after his appointment as the administrative officer of the State Water Project Authority under the Olson administration. Following WWII, Leedom became administrative assistant to the State Water Resources Board from 1945 until his retirement in 1957. In this interview, Leedom discusses his time as city editor of the Sacramento Bee, Ed Hyatt and R.M. Edmonston, Earl Warren, the Central Valley Project, State Water Commission, state water plan, California governors and water development.
