Description
Adrian Wilson was a fine printer, typographer, and teacher. Born in 1923 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he first came to the West Coast during World War II when he was sent to a conscientious objectors’ fine arts camp at Waldport, Oregon. Following the war, he and his wife Joyce moved to San Francisco as members of the group which established the Interplayers. His work with the Interplayers and subsequent books of poetry established him as a talented printer in the 1940s. In this interview, Wilson discusses his time at the conscientious objectors’ camp during World War II, the Interplayers theater group, involvement with the UC Press, and his career in book designing and fine printing. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting printing in the Bay Area.
