Description

Lialia Andreevna Sharov was a physicist who was involved in the development of space rockets. Born in 1898 in what is now known as Ulyanovsk, Russia, Sharov lived through much of the turbulence of the Russian Revolution, which erupted in 1917. The following years of tumult prompted her to immigrate to the United States, where she worked for the US government as a space technology research engineer. In this donated memoir, Sharov discusses her life in eastern Siberia and Manchuria prior to her departure for San Francisco in 1922. This interview is part of a group of interviews documenting Russian émigrés in California.
