Description
This black-and-white comic strip by Rube Goldberg features a complex, multi-step mechanical contraption designed for weight loss. The primary scene depicts a series of interconnected objects: a doughnut (A) rolls down a board (B) becoming hot from friction and brushes against and melts a lump of wax (C). This wax releases a hanging rope (D) that drops a fat man (E) onto a bomb (F). The resulting explosion blows the man through a loop (G) suspended from a balloon (H). The man’s movement punctures the balloon on a pin (I), causing it to drop the man onto a red-hot stove (J). The resulting heat causes the man to rise and run to a table (L) and fall into a hole (K) where he hits a lever (M) that drops a bell (O) over him. The man is shown trapped in the bell, where he will stay until he loses enough weight to get out of the hole. To the right, four smaller panels show a separate cartoon titled I'M CURED. Text at the bottom provides a step-by-step technical explanation of the machine's functions, while speech bubbles in the side panels include dialogue such as "THOSE ARE MY EX-HUSBANDS" and "I'M CURED!"
