Description
This black-and-white comic strip by Rube Goldberg, titled "It was a perfectly natural position for him at that," consists of six sequential panels followed by a group of four smaller panels on the right titled "I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT." The sequence depicts a driver standing at the back of a moving cable car. In the first five panels, he stands looking straight upward as more and more people run toward the car, attempting to jump on board. Each of the running people also look up, seeming to look for whatever is holding the driver's attention. In the final panel of the sequence, The crowd of people have all fallen backwards to the left, and the driver has stopped looking up and says "IT LOOKS A LITTLE CLOUDY, SO I DON'T THINK I'LL BUY A STRAW HAT TODAY." Handwritten text below the panels repeats the comic’s title. The right-hand panels feature illustrations with speech bubbles: the top shows a person talking about finding affordable apartments, and the bottom shows a policeman in a suit suggesting going to a "REAL ESTATE OFFICE." A signature "R.L. Goldberg" and the date "May 25" appear in the bottom right corner.
