Knobcone (Pinus attenuata) and coulter (Pinus coulteri) pines. 9 year old plantation on old fire line above Henninger Flat 2200 feet elevation. Mt. Wilson, Los Angeles County, California. Note that the knobcone is 25-30 feet in height and has far out distanced the coulter which is just behind Mr. Parnay in the picture. Young deodars planted here cannot be seen, but many still persist under the shade of brush. May, 1916.
