Title
The trunk of a large California Nutmeg growing near Ross's cabin on an alder and pepper wood flat on Big River near Mendocino, Boyles Camp Road. This tree is 47'' diameter at breast height, but not over 110 feet high. A boring made at the breast height indicates that the tree is making rapid growth. At the time the picture was taken the ground was full of cast off flowers which seemed to be of the staminate form. May, 1923.
