Pete driving - bluish mud at top; begins to drive hard the last 6 ft. 40 ft. lengths - 12" drain, butt, 8" diam. top - Brought up solidly at 40 ft. depth, probably on hard pan. Designed for 20 tons per pile. Piles at Market St. between Spear and Stuart [Steuart], 40 ft. Long, were loaded to 50 tons without appeciable settlement by test load.
