Note
Although this image was received from collector Zelda Mackay as an unidentified portrait with unknown provenance, a descendant of Sutter's Fort gold discoverer Peter Wimmer (1810-1892) has suggested that it is he, or a family member. Comparison to a later portrait of Wimmer indicates that this is likely.
