Bust length portrait of President Zachary Taylor, in military uniform. Daguerreotype copy of a painting. Received misidentified as "James Hunter." James Hunter (1812-1840) was a brother of Lillie Hitchcock Coit's mother. He was a Texas pioneer and died there in 1840, early in life. He is presumably the James Hunter referenced in the misidentification. Coit's father, Charles M. Hitchcock, served in the Mexican War as a surgeon, and may thus have had a connection to General Taylor.
