Bancroft, relating mainly to his experiences as a soldier at Santa Barbara; with account of searches for fugitive Indians, activities of the pirate Bouchard in southern California, Jose Estudillo's 1823 expedition to the Colorado River, Indian uprisings at La Purisima and at Santa Barbara, and the Solis revolt.
