Includes mention of the Kodiak Indians; fur trapping and trade; the sale of the establishment to J.A. Sutter; activities of E. Duflot de Mofras in California; smallpox epidemic of 1837 at Fort Ross; missions and treatment of Indians; Vallejo's relations with the Russians; a defense of the Vallejo family in response to an attack by De Mofras; and the Pious Fund.
