Based on the book of the same title by Michael Godfrey. Depicts two cycles of life, the annual cycle of growth and the longer cycle of natural plant succession. Focuses on the ecological community of the Bull thistle and on the spring ephemerals of the climax forest. Filmed in the Piedmont region of North Carolina.
