Description

This poster for the France d'Outre-Mer exhibition features a rippling French tricolor flag overlaid on an ocean of blue waves. The tip of the flag's pole is at a slight angle in the top center of the poster, and the flag undulates back and forth across the poster towards us, with deep blue near the pole, to white and then to red across the bottom of the image. Emerging from behind the flag's blue section are four black and white ocean liners, each with two red funnels. Small, white airplane silhouettes fly across the sky beyond the flag top. The background is a light sky blue, while the bottom foreground consists of a darker blue waves and the red band of the flag which contains shapes of produce and a box or crate. The text at the top is printed in dark blue and white sans-serif font, reading: "MINISTERE DES COLONIES / DEUXIEME SALON DE LA / FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER / GRAND-PALAIS / 2-26 MAI / PARIS 1940." In the bottom right corner, a small box contains ticket prices: "ENTRÉE: 6 FRS DE 10H À 19H / VENDREDI APRÈS-MIDI 12 FRS." The smaller text "d'après PAUL COLIN," appears in the bottom left.
