The oldest editions are identified as Einheitsblatt (1 cm-Karte) or as Karte des Deutschen Reiches 1:100 000 (1 cm-Karte), Einheitsblatt. Most subsequently published sheets are in some way identified as Grossblatt sheets. Some later sheets were issued by OKH/Gen St d H, Chef des Kriegskarten- und Vermessungswesens and are identified as Deutsche Heereskarte.

Relief shown by contours, hachures and spot heights. Title varies. Various editions of some sheets. Some sheets printed in black-and-white or brown-and-white. Grossblatt sheets combine 4 or more sheets of the traditional format of the German 1 cm-Karte on one sheet. Most quadrangles cover 30 minutes of latitude by 1 degree of longtitude. Set covers much of Central Europe, including all of Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and parts of neighboring states, including western Ukraine and western Belarus. Germany, easternmost France and part of the Benelux countries are covered by sheets 1-160. Coverage of other areas starts with sheet 301. "Zusammendruck [date] aus der Karte des Deutschen Reiches 1:100 000 (1 cm-Karte)"--Text in lower left margin of many Einheitsblatt sheets.
