Title
Second growth redwood for poles. Pole #11 of the Pacific Gas & Electric line over the Week's 1 ranch. Set in 1924; examined Feb. 13, 1929. The sapwood was unexpectedly found to be almost completely sound. On the date of examination the soil was moist, but it appears to be the well-grained type. This pole measures about 12 inches in diameter at the ground line. This view shows the character of the pole as to shape and checking. See also photos #4066, #4067, and #4068. The poles do not check any more than does western red cedar when used for poles. E.F., Feb. 1929.
