Title
Redwood characteristics. The famous Lilly Tree on the Lilly property, adjoining the state highway in Humboldt County, 56 miles north of Willitts. The tree measures 18 feet in diameter just above the hole shown in the picture. The tree swells out at the base to such an extend that the hole inside measures about 18 feet or more inside on the ground. There are three large openings through the tree to the outside, so that the tree really rests on three "legs". The top of the tree is shown in photo #4082. The height is 220 feet, although the top is broken. March 1929, E.F.
