Handwritten letter from A. [Amos] J. Ellis, addressed to two men at 20 Wall Street, New York, with details of his voyage to San Francisco. Ellis writes that the ship is 200 miles from Chagres, Panama and that most of the time on board involves playing high stakes poker games and having gin drinks. The letter has an integral address page and a steam ship stamp for 30 cents. Also includes a recent handwritten transcript of the letter.
