Description
Concerns Dyer's travels from New Sharon, Me. to Columbia, Calif. Dyer left Me. on 30 Jan. 1854, traveling from Boston to New York, and then by the steamer Northern Light to Calif. Dyer describes life aboard ship during the month long voyage. Dyer makes several mining claims near Columbia, Calif., and writes of his successes and disappointments with gold mining. Dyer also discusses life around Columbia, Calif. including crime and relations with Mexicans and South Americans. The diary ends in July 1855 when he left his claims.
