Description
Journal kept by a carpenter from Gloucester, Massachusetts during an 1849 voyage aboard the barque Izete (with Eben Higgens as master) departing from Gloucester and arriving in San Francisco in 1850, detailing his experiences in San Francisco and the gold regions. Describes his employment in a San Francisco store, building boats, bouts of dysentery, packing shingles to Stockton, taking on a boarder, and travels to Trinidad and the Klamath River in search of gold. Ends with a detailed description of a Chilean picnic which he joined by chance. Journal probably by Theodore Kimball, whose name appears in the rear of the journal.
