Description

Case file for United States vs. Andrés Pico and Francisco de Uribe de Campo, Habra (also called "Cañada de Habra") [Los Angeles and Orange County]. Includes transcript of the proceedings and related documents.
Granted by Jimeno Oct. 22, 1839, to Mariano Reyes Roldan; 1.5 leagues, by name. Claim filed by Andres Pico and Francisca de Uribe de Campo Oct. 20, 1852. Confirmed by the Board July 3, 1855. Confirmed by the District Court Feb. 19, 1857; appeal dismissed Mar. 4, 1858. The court docket, Dec. 4, 1865, mentions a Supreme Court mandate; this evidently was a clerical error in reading 325 SD for 355 SD. Patent issued to Andres Pico et al Dec. 4, 1872, for 6,698.57 acres. The patent is recorded in Los Angeles. No. 462 General Land Office map. In Los Angeles County 4,550.37 acres; in Orange County 2,148.20 acres. Bowman, J.N. Index of the Spanish-Mexican private land grant records and cases of California, I, 261 (shelved as BANC MSS C-R 17, Bancroft Library).
