Granted by Figueroa Oct. 2, 1834, to Juan Reed; 1 league, by name, and included San Clemente. Claim filed by the heirs of Juan Reed Dec. 23, 1852. Confirmed by the Board June 13, 1854. Confirmed by the District Court Jan. 14, 1856. Patent issued to the heirs of John Read, Hilaria Read, and Inez Read Feb. 25, 1885, for 7,845.12 acres. The patent is recorded in San Rafael, Marin County. No. 42 General Land Office map. After juridical possession was given the rancho was also called San Clemente; in the 1820's it was known as San Pedro Alcantara. In the patent the patentee's name is written Reed and Read; in the expediente and court papers it is written Reed, Reid, Read. In 1860 and 1865 the children all signed their names as Reed to the court papers. Bowman, J.N.
