Title
Effects of severe fire of September 1923, on sprout reproduction of redwood on south exposure above Smith Creek Camp #2, Union Lumber Company, Mendocino County. Sprouts which were killed were about 6 years old following logging of 1917-18. The two year old growth of sprouts following the fire are 5-6 ft. high but some stumps have failed to sprout a second time. The area was planted in Jan. 1925 to redwood, Douglas fir and Port Orford cedar. A small tree of the last species is in front of the camera case in the foreground. The planted trees are doing very well the last part of July. 1925.
