Title
Cypress logging scene in Atchafalaya Basin, Southern Louisiana. In the foreground Cypress logs made into raft. Sinker logs held up by method shown in picture. Stern wheel tow-boat in background. Between raft and tow-boat is seen a mass of water hyacinths, a pest which causes a great deal of trouble on the bayous of this region. The water hyacinths were introduced from some foreign country forty years ago or more. Since then it has spread throughout the streams and obstructs navigation more or less. It has to be cleared at frequent intervals at considerable cost.
