Title
A 12-year old Coulter Pine, Pinus coulteri, in the plantation at Orange County. This gives an idea of the shallow and sterile character of the soil and shows something of root development. On this north and east exposure the trees have done fairly well. Across on the other side they are dying from drought. 1939. Metcalf.
