Title
Redwood Region. Root system of a 5-foot redwood. Excavated for a road and quarry. At Mather Grove (north end), near Weott, Humboldt County, California. Roots: one 4" to right and 3 ft. down from surface, three 4"-6" at 1.5 ft. just to Left of trunk. Cut is 8 ft. from tree. Stony shale and heavy loam. 9-10-50. E.F.
