Title
Slopes within the Montrose burned area were exceedingly steep and the fire of November 1933 was hot enough to remove a large part of the protective cover of the brush although some of the big-cone spruce and oak trees survived. The 15 tons of Trieste mustard sown on the burn prior to the heavy rain had not time to germinate. Quite a lot of seeds were left on the ridges between gulleys and were germinating at the time this picture was taken. 1934. Metcalf.
