Title
Tall dead redwood tree on R. O. Dixon (Vance) place just south of Phillipsville and opposite Gasser ranch on Redwood Highway, Humboldt County, California. Tree was girdled about 1890. Tree to right is 110" diameter at breast height without bark, and 250-300' high. Butt is sound and without hollow or burned cat faces. Entire stem, however, shows charred wood due to land clearing fires. Upper trunk is riddled with woodpecker holes. See also #5503 and #5504. Note large form factor. E.F. August 2, 1932.
